The Parent Company
Our Parent Company, The New India Assurance Co. Ltd., is a multinational general insurance company headquartered in Mumbai, India, founded in 1919 by Sir Dorabji Tata.
Global Strength. Indian Heritage.
The New India Assurance Co. Ltd. was founded by Sir Dorabji Tata, a respected businessman and humanitarian. The company was nationalised in 1974 and today its equity is held by the Government of India.
New India has been a leader in India’s non-life insurance market for more than 40 years, with operations across the globe through subsidiaries, agency operations, direct branches and associate companies.
International Operations
Caribbean Focus
The New India’s presence in the Caribbean reflects the vision of Sir Dorabji Tata, who said in 1919:
“New India is not a Bombay Insurance company, or a company solely working in India, but may claim to be a world-wide company.”
New India began Caribbean operations in 1946 through New Mercantile Agencies. In 1966, following the enforcement of a new Insurance Act, full-fledged branches were established in Port of Spain and San Fernando.
The New India Assurance Company (Trinidad & Tobago) Limited was incorporated on 1st February 1976 and commenced operations on 1st July 1977.
